1920s performer Josephine Baker was the original trailblazer, musically and stylistically. Though she was best known for her signature banana skirt, Baker was also the ‘wearer of many hats’ – from top hats and turbans to cloche hats and elaborate art-deco headpieces. Her androgynous and playful style has cemented Josephine Baker as a pioneer in experimental fashion.
